CESDP | YOUTH PROGRAMS

The Northern New Mexico GEAR UP / ENLACE Collaborative is a federally-funded partnership grant from the US Department of Education that provides a continuum of college readiness and awareness activities to a cohort of 700 students in three school districts -- Santa Fe Public Schools, Pojoaque Valley Public Schools, and Española Public Schools. Other GEAR UP partners include the Center for the Education and Study of Diverse Populations (CESDP) at New Mexico Highlands University, Santa Fe Community College, Northern New Mexico College, and the LANL Math and Science Academy. GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.

The GEAR UP staff will support the cohort of 700 students for a total of six years (2005 – 2011) until they graduate from high school and enter college or careers. Parents, students, and teachers are provided with numerous opportunities to increase their skills and college knowledge through programs such as AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), tutoring, mentoring, Poets-in-the-Schools, http://www.nmculturenet.org, Advanced Placement training for teachers, and Parent Workshops.
